Anatomy of the Bond - Sara del Pilar

Curatone.art is delighted to exhibit solo artwork by Sara del Pilar, the winner of Connections 2026 art competition. The selected collection of bronze sculptures of this artist includes a retrospective of the past thirty years of her practice. As Sara del Pilar, who was born in Pasadena, California, and made Chile her home for the past three decades, experiences of rootlessness and the process of creating oneself in new surroundings became the core of her emotional palette.

As a result of being a sociologist in her academic life before turning to sculpture-making, Sara del Pilar's practice turned into a complex investigation of "the bond" not as some fixed structure but as an alive, unstable ecosystem of collisions, adaptations, and modifications that humans undergo within it. Instead of creating the perfect representation of romantic love, del Pilar depicts an environment filled with imbalance, tension, fear, and injuries as well as coexistence, symbiosis, and transcendence.

This exhibition should not be treated as a set of independent objects but rather as a whole story that visitors can trace following certain psychological path starting from fusion and ending in detachment. It will begin from Suspension (1993) where both parts exist simultaneously in a state of unity and continue through the break of Differentiation (1996), the uneasy balance of Co-regulation (2010). Finally, the exhibition will finish with Detachment (2020) where the symbiotic cycle ends and a person finds himself or herself in the state of existence without losing oneself in another.
